Golden Anniversary Surprise

My mom’s wedding dress was stolen when we were little. Mom and Dad were always helping the less fortunate and inviting homeless to Thanksgiving, etc. They also didn’t have a lot of worldly possessions, so we assume someone stole the wedding dress to sell for money. And Mom was always sad about it.

Cue their 50th wedding anniversary where we decided to see if we could find the same wedding dress design for sale. And we did!

Which inspired a fashion show of my siblings, kids, and us dressing up like different photos of Mom and Dad--complete with tube socks, short-shorts, bell bottoms, and rainbow visors. A catwalk down memory lane, if you will.

As my daughter walked out in the dress, Mom was so confused. She kept saying, "That looks like my wedding dress. Where did you find my dress?" To which, my brother joked that my daughter was the one who stole it.

Needless to say, the surprise was a success. It was such a joy to honor the legacy of love my parents created. Dad said he's never seen anyone as honored as they felt. And my husband described the experience as the cherry on top of our summer sundae.

Now these two cuties are currently flying first-class to a resort in Mexico for a second honeymoon. And this is better than any romance novel I could ever write.

Have you ever gotten to celebrate someone's golden anniversary?

This is my third attempt to comment. We just had our 50th on the 6th of September. No big celebration. He bought me roses and I fixed his favorite meal. Both of our sons called. Otherwise it was a quiet day at home.
